Vaugeois slams government over accessibility crisis and failure to support students with disabilities

QUEEN’S PARK – NDP Shadow Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, with responsibility for WSIB and Injured Workers MPP Lise Vaugeois (Thunder Bay – Superior North) stood in the Legislature today to address the growing accessibility crisis in Ontario.

“The government was warned that accessibility across Ontario is at a crisis level, yet the Human Rights Tribunal has dismissed 97% of cases without hearings,” said MPP Vaugeois. “The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act is meaningless if people have nowhere to seek justice, and today, the rights of people with disabilities are not being protected. At the same time, children with disabilities are being left behind in our schools. Key 2022 recommendations remain unimplemented, and parents are being told that funding for students with disabilities may be optional. This is unacceptable and reflects a government that is failing to uphold dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all.”
